The Gun Barrels

What they say

Used to be vying to be the brightest pub in Selly Oak, now it's vying to be one of the best. Recently refurbed, not only does the new decor mean you don't have to wear sunglasses anymore, they also have several more of those squishy chairs/sofas that were designed for the Jolly Green Giant. You can pull one of the new TV screens over the sofas and create your own little living room, but a living room with a bloody great big bar in it. In the summer months you can take advantage of the beer garden, and usual 'It's A Scream' yellow card discounts apply.

What we think:
Almost only students in here, this is a fairly large pub, although gets packed out at nights. Often has great deals on drinks and has a good selection too. There are two pool tables scattered about and several rooms surround an enormous bar. During the day there tends to be few people, although it is a nice place to relax, and serves some food. At nights there is a total transformation, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. It can take a while to get served on busy nights, but most of the this is not a problem. If you're looking for somewhere to meet fellow (drunk) students this is a place for you, if that isn't appealing to you, you're probably looking at the wrong site! I'ts a good place to go prior to going out, but can be dead during the day.

Even as a student I don't think it's great. Too often full of people who simply refuse to go to any other pub in Selly without having tried them. Dingy in the day and ridiculously noisy in the evenings.

Drinks are more expensive than at places like the Goose. As is food. But the food is delicious!

Should definitely be included on every pub crawl, but much overhyped for a whole evening.

A Replica of the bristol pear but on a larger scale. I prefer this pub to the pear as it has a beer garden, more room inside, and more staff. I feel that the prices are relatively high and i would not bother with the food as it would probably be the same as rubbish served at the pear but this pub is ok to spend a evening in now and again.

If your not a student, seriously .... don't bother. For students though, it remains a top place to meet up with mates and bump into someone you haven't seen for a while. Often gets very busy in the evenings, but thats not a problem as whoever goes there is not there for a quiet pint: Expect tanked up student having a good time before moving on into town.

In the daytime it is a quiet affair but retains a good atmosphere with comfortable seating, pool tables, beer garden and screened jukebox.

It should be known that the beer is good value, but is of a piss-poor quality with not a decent ale in sight. Pub grub does the business at a decent enough price.

Good Pub generally, but took almost 20mins to get served during the England Sweden match - get more staff!!!
